What career should I look for?

I know what I want to do, I just don't know if there is a career for what I'm imagining. I've created fantasies in my head of traveling to many places for scientific research and also inventing environmentally friendly machines. I want to major in environmental engineering and minor in civil engineering. My goal is to help change the world. I want to pursue my knack for inventing. If you could name the career I'm thinking of (if there is one) that isn't just environmental engineer, I would very much appreciate it.
